Research
At Scheie’s F.M.
Kirby Center for Molecular Ophthalmology, scientists investigate
the causes of important eye conditions that may
be treatable with molecular therapies, including:
- macular degeneration
- diabetic retinopathy
- hereditary retinal degenerations
- cataract
- severe myopia
Scheie is a world
leader in research on retinal degenerations,
especially age-related macular degeneration (AMD),
and is consistently in the top five in the nation
in funding by the National
Eye Institute.
